THE PLAYWRIGHT

I write plays, operas, and theatrical adaptations that embrace realism and surrealism (though not always together). My work often portrays ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances, as the lives they thought they knew, begin to unravel socially, morally, and literally.  What happens when the rules we live by no longer exist?  Whether in the mountains of Appalachia, a city bridge on a winter night, a doomed ship in the Arctic Ocean, a seedy bar, a neighborhood restaurant, or a theater in London in 1895, I write from the rich perspective gained from growing up in the streets of Somerville, Massachusetts, a place filled with irreverence and dark humor, which I will always call home.
